Lynne PowellJune 5, 1951 ~ October 3, 2017 (age 66)
Lynne (Norma Lynne) Powell, 66, passed away October 3, 2017 at Bonnell Good Samaritan, Greeley, Colorado following a long illness.
She was born June 5, 1951 Letterman Army Hospital in San Francsco,CA, daughter of Norma and James Powell, and sister of young James Powell.
She graduated high school in Mill Valley, CA and attended college in San Jose. She worked through college at Intel in Santa Clara and quickly rose to a management position. After college she moved to Sendai, Japan, where she married Katsumaru “John” Yamada. They later divorced. Lynne taught English at Yasuda Women’s University in Hiroshima for many years. It was there that she met and became lifelong friends with John and Ramona Baker who helped facilitate her move back to Greeley, Colorado with her son, Ken.
She worked at StarTek in Greeley, until moving to Las Vegas, Nevada in 2001 where she served in various capacities of Christian ministry, mainly in intercessory prayer which included many mission trips to Estonia, the Philippines, and Paris. She returned to Greeley in 2007 to be near her grandchildren and again worked at StarTek until declining health necessitated her retirement. Her friends, the Bakers, looked after and supported her during her long final illness. She also received outstanding support, care and friendship from Halcyon Hospice.
Lynne described herself as a “Seeker” even from a very young age. Her search for God, the One True God, took her down several religious paths until in January of 1995 when she met Jesus Christ and answered His call, forging a true and deep relationship with the Son of God. She was baptized that same year at the Greeley Wesleyan Church. Her treasure hunt was over and her new life had begun. She stopped seeking and started growing in the Lord. She attended First Assembly of God in Greeley forming a close friendship with Don and Davida Harm whom she later joined in ministry in Las Vegas. Upon her return to Greeley she attended 23rd Avenue Church. Valued pastoral care came to her in her dying days from Chaplain Tim of Halcyon Hospice. Throughout it all she continued her intercessory prayer ministry from home or care facilities when she could no longer attend church. She never looked back, but lived her life fully for Christ until she had spent every dime of her earnings and every ounce of her health serving Him. She looked forward with joyful anticipation to her life of eternal face-to-face worship of her Lord Jesus. Those who visited her in her last days were greeted with her ever-beaming smile and shared in the overwhelming peace that passes understanding—a tangible witness to her unfailing trust in Christ. She was never alone.
She was preceded in death by her parents and just 2 days earlier by her dear Aunt Marti She is survived by her son, Ken Yamada of Greely, and grandchildren Emily, Jayden, Kayson and Natalie Yamada.
Her friends and family are gathering for a memorial service at Bonnell Good Samaritan Chapel, 708 22nd St, Greeley, CO. Friends may send memorial gifts in Lynne’s name to any Christian ministry of their choice.
